Tutors for Tunes is a tutoring organization developed by high-schoolers who are dedicated to helping their community and assisting children in developing their passion for music. We offer tutoring services (in-person & online) for a wide variety of instruments and musically-related topics, all no price!
Our mission
At Irvine Tutors4Tunes, we are passionate about providing music education to children of all ages at an affordable cost. Our mission is to help children discover their passion and love for music, while providing high school students with teaching and volunteer experience. We believe music has the power to connect us, bring us together and help us understand our unique differences. Because of this, we wish to support children trying to pursue music and any kind of education that do not have sufficient funds. We strive to be an active member of the community, while providing quality music education to our students.
What to Expect in a lesson
Warm-Ups
Every lesson with our music tutors will start with a warm up on your instrument. This warm up includes playing scales, long tones, and simple melodies to help you get in the zone for the lesson. Our tutors will customize the warm up to meet your individual needs, so you can get the most out of your session.
New Material Introduction
The second step in our lessons is to introduce new material to the student if there is no old material to review. We provide a tailored approach to each student's individual needs and objectives, where we introduce new concepts, techniques, or repertoire for the student to learn. This could include teaching new music theory topics, introducing a new piece or song, or focusing on technical aspects of playing the instrument.
Practice & Instruction
Next, we will guide the student through practicing the new material. We offer careful instruction, demonstrations, and explanations to help the student understand and execute the techniques correctly. Additionally, we will help the student break down complex passages or concepts into smaller, manageable parts.
Skill-building Exercises
Our tutors will assign specific exercises or drills such as scales, arpeggios, sight-reading exercises, ear training exercises, or rhythmic exercises tailored to the student's individual level and goals. We provide a personalized approach to help the student build their skills and reach their desired level of music proficiency.
Recap & Conclusion
At the end of each lesson, our music tutors allow time for the student to ask any questions they may have. Once the student's questions are answered, the tutor will assign practice tasks or activities for the student to work on until the next lesson. To conclude, the tutor will summarize the key points covered during the lesson and provide a brief overview of what the student can expect in the next lesson.
